当时没有多少人听说过由于特殊历史环境而不得不暂时撤离大陆的壳牌，可是一向爱好读书的严路想起小时候看过一本《上海的故事》，其中提到壳牌早年在上海的业务和办公楼，于是兴奋地回答：“我知道！”就这样，她开始了和壳牌的不解之缘。\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E严路这样说：“当初离开上海的舒适环境，来到完全陌生的深圳，就是一心想弄明白，为什么当时在中国隔一条街都管不好的财务控制问题，壳牌这样的跨国集团隔着大半个地球都能做到？”\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E1986年，她作为最早的一批中国籍项目组成员，开始参与壳牌在中国自己建设、运营和管理的赤湾项目，这是一个负责燃油和液化石油气 储运批发的项目。“当时条件真是艰苦，项目所在地是挖山填海造出来的,连路也没有。”严路回忆说，“我连一句广东话也听不懂，可是项目上的香港同事也不会说普通话，整理项目投资资料的时候，我这个没有化工技术知识的门外汉经常不知道如何翻译零部件名称，是香港同事画图、比划、英文解释加上我猜繁体字才搞明 设计会计科目、设计凭证，甚至还包括指导年轻员工如何贴报销凭证！“当时整个壳牌北京也就60多人吧，全部的中国人加起来不过十几个！看看今天，壳牌中国真是今非昔比了。\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E特别让她感动的是，在拿到壳牌的工作邀请后，严路突然发现自己怀孕了。她满以为这份工作没戏了，没想到公司恭喜她，告诉她这绝对不会影响工作机会。严路说：“那个时候，你真的感觉到这里是真正尊重员工，这里有非常好的企业文化。所以我告诉自己，一定要对得起这份信任。\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E“我还特别喜欢壳牌允许员工大胆去做，允许犯错，允许改正，允许成长的气度，当时万事开头难，工作特别多，所有人真正是一个团队，像一个大家庭。”\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E之后，严路还参与建立天津油库合资企业的建立，服务过加油站业务，见证了江苏加油站合资企业的谈判和成立。有很长一段时间，她曾被同事们称为“flying
