Municipal Council School 赢得数学奖。应校长要求，我留校任教。后来听说亚细亚火油公司的实验室需要一个懂化学的人，我就在1928年6月加入了公司。\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E“起初，我对石油一点不懂，但有一个英国同事常常教我，我们很快便成了莫逆之交。他家里每个月都会寄来大量杂志，他总是借给我读，我的英文就有了提高。我对各种东西进行化验——煤油、汽油、石油、石蜡，我还学会了调配油品——用各种基础油调配出船用发动机油。当时实验室只有我一个人，工作非常简单，而且重复，不过那段日子非常愉快。\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E“1937年，日本人来了。战争期间，我亲眼目睹了浦东的战火。1942年，亚细亚火油公司关闭，我去了青岛。战后，亚细亚火油公司给旧员工写信，请大家复职。我没有马上回去，但1948年我回到上海。原来的亚细亚火油公司实验室已不复存在，他们重建了一个，
