- Shell is the No. 1 international liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier to China;
- Shell is the No. 1 international bitumen supplier in China;
- Shell is the leading international oil company (IOC) providing coal gasification technologies to China.
- Shell helps meet China’s energy needs and works with Chinese partners to develop unconventional gas, help customers improve energy efficiency, offer differentiated oil products and supply coal gasification technologies.
Below is a brief summary of performance highlights of Shell China and Hong Kong in 2009:
Upstream: Changbei produced 3.18 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas in 2009, higher than the target of 3bcm. The coalbed methane project in North Shilou completed the first exploration well. In Changbei, we achieved the record of drilling the longest horizontal section (2,251metres) of multi-lateral wells onshore China.
Lubricants: Together with Shell Tongyi, Shell lubricants businesses grew strongly in China and offered customers renowned international and Chinese branded products. We maintain the top position among international lubricants marketers.
Retail: China Retail saw strong growth in 2009, building up its network to about 600 gas stations.
Bitumen: Shell entered China’s high-speed rail market as the only IOC supplier, becoming a leading supplier within a year.
Clean Coal: Shell signed agreements with three Chinese companies to manufacture key equipment for coal gasification locally.
Major businesses and projects achieved zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) throughout the year. Among them, Changbei recorded 10 million man-hours without LTI. In our upstream and downstream businesses, we recorded zero LTI for travelling 13 million kilometres, which is equal to going around the Earth 325 times!
Shell Hong Kong achieved zero LTI in 2009.
